Academic Requirements
The UMF Honors Program is open to outstanding students who have shown exceptional motivation, creativity, and a strong interest in the world of ideas.
ADMISSION:
Incoming First-Year Students
who graduated in the top ten percent of their high school classes, have a strong background in college-preparatory courses, and meet other criteria may receive an invitation to apply for the program from the Admissions Office and Honors Director.
UMF Students
may also be recommended by UMF faculty for the program. Also, new or current students who feel they qualify may obtain an application from the Honors Director at 125 Lincoln Street.
AFTER YOU ARE IN THE PROGRAM:
Requirements
Full-time students must complete a minimum of one Honors course every three semesters and maintain a 3.0 grade point average to remain in the Honors program.
Honors Recognition
Three levels of Honors Recognition are possible.
The requirements to achieve Pen Recipient status are:
12 credits in Honors including
HON 101/FYS 100: Western Thought
The requirements to achieve Honors Certificate status are:
16 credits in Honors including
HON 101/FYS 100: Western Thought, and
a 300-level Honors course
The requirements to achieve Honors Scholar status are:
20 credits in Honors including
HON 101/FYS 100: Western Thought
a 300-level Honors course, and
completion of a Thesis or Creative Project
Different requirements apply to students entering UMF prior to Fall 2006, and to students entering the Honors Program with 32 or more credits. Contact the Honors Director for more information.
